Sr. Therese Demers
Sr. Therese Demers recently celebrated 40 years of profession as a Dominican Sister. She has served in the community as Directress of Sisters in Temporary Vows, Local Community Coordinator, and Treasurer. She currently represents the Congregation/Province as Federation Member of the USA Dominican Sisters.
Her journey in ministry has led her to Staten Island, New York, Massachusetts, and Iowa, where she lived for 22 years, ministering as a teacher, Faith Formation Director, and Pastoral Associate in urban and rural areas. In 1997, she returned to Maine and served as Pastoral Associate and Adult Faith Formation coordinator. Four years later, she entered the Clinical Pastoral Program at Central Maine Medical Center to explore a new area of ministry. She has been Assistant Chaplain at the hospital for the past 6 years, and continues to enjoy her ministry among patients, families, and staff. She serves on several committees at the hospital: Ethics, Trauma, Palliative Care, and every 10 weeks, she gives a presentation on "Emotional Aspects of Heart Disease" to cardiac patients.
Therese is grateful for the many blessings she has received throughout the years, and continues to share and bring the good news of God's tenderness and compassion to the frail, sick, and dying, as well as the medical staff she works with.
